Week 3 “viz”: Archives reflection
Write me a reflection on your experience in the archives. You can include a sketch of a visualization if you would like, but it is not required. You might want to talk about the whole experience, and/or pick one piece and focus on it specifically. You could talk about your favorite piece, the one you hated the most, the one that gave you the most questions, etc.
Here is the list of items we looked at in the archives. If you missed the archives visit or want to go back to look at materials again, check the library website for archives hours. When I checked, the hours were listed as “9am-Noon & 1-4:30pm (appointment recommended).”
In your reflection, try to respond to at least some of the questions from the sheet we had about a material or two:
- Who created the source? When was it created?
- What was the purpose of the source? Who was the intended audience?
- How does the creator’s message come across? What data display methods do they use?
- What other information would you want to know?
- What do you notice first?
- What do you notice that you didn’t expect?
- What do you notice that you can’t explain?
- What do you notice that you didn’t earlier?
You might also want to comment on mappings, whether you thought everything we saw was really data visualization, anything about the creation methods, etc.
I’m looking for approximately 1 page double spaced, so about 250 words.
